Year 9 Rowing

Welcome to the information page for all New Year 9s who are keen to give rowing a try at The Windsor Boys' School

PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW TO FIND OUT HOW TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE WINDSOR BOYS' SCHOOL BOAT CLUB IN YEAR 9. Information for the  September 2025 cohort, and how to start will be out in the Spring Term, but one of the best ways is to attend a spring term GYM club at TWBS, and then get onto one of the Summer Courses held across the summer holidays 2025.

Year 9 Rowing

Year 9 Rowing is all about learning the basic skills (see the videos below), and developing an understanding of what being part of the Boat Club is all about.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - CLICK HERE

Numbers start very high normally often with up to 150 boys participating in the swim and capsize drill evening.  Patience, as the programme gets going, is really important, as is the most important of aspects, the " BIG 'A'", ATTTUDE being everything!

As soon as boys are ready we will get them out racing, starting with internal skill racing and internal crew boat racing, before racing externally at one of the many events the Boat Club attends each year.

The aim is to give as many as possible the opportunity to row.  Racing comes thick and fast in the summer and the aim is to get as many boys as possible up to a racing standard.  Gym sessions from 07.00 during the winter and early morning sessions on the river during the summer months mean the boys’ skills develop quickly.  As boys move into Year 11, the training increases and the targets get higher, with representational honours on the cards.  The system at Windsor Boys’ is progressive, and hopefully by the time boys reach the sixth form their skills will be highly proficient, and they will have a really good understanding of what it takes to perform to a high level as an athlete.  For those who don’t quite make the lofty heights of representing their country, there is still plenty of opportunity to enjoy the benefits of being a rower, including a very active racing programme across all the year groups, and of course, all the health benefits of being very fit.
